UPDATE: Hats off to Haiti hat

What a truly successful fundraiser we had the week of March 1st-5th. The kids paid .50 cents each day to wear a hat and raised nearly $700 to benefit the survivors of the Hait earthquake. A representative from the Red Cross attended our morning meeting and we presented him with the check. The story was covered in the Springfield Times as well as on KMTR. You can visit our site at thurstonpta.com to view the news footage.

Coco Family

Socorro "Coco" Sanchez - Teacher at TES

Hi, my name is Coco. I am a devoted wife and mother of three beautiful children. I have been an employee of the Springfield School District for the past six years. I recently found out that I needed open heart surgery to correct a birth defect. My aortic valve is defective and must be replaced with an artificial valve. The surgery is scheduled in mid April and is my second major heart surgery in six years. I am a full time employee with health benefits but have not yet paid off my first surgery or the birth of my son last year and am now in a very challenging health and financial position. I am very blessed to have family and friends that love me very much. A fundraiser event at Papa's Pizza has been scheduled as well as an account at US Bank in my name for donations to help out with my medical expenses. The pizza fundraiser is being held at the Springfield Papa's Pizza on April 13th.

Thank you so much for your consideration and support.

File Folder Games
Come visit our Community Center (next to the office) and see the new "File Folder Games" we have available for your family to check out. Currently we have math and reading games in grades K,1,2,3 and 4. What a great way to sit down and spend some time with your child doing something fun while learning! We are asking that only adults check out the games rather than students. For more information please call the TES office at 744-6411
Free Money from Safeway!!
Our PTA would like to register your Safeway Club Card with escrip.com. This is an online shopping site that gives a percentage of your spending with registered stores to the school of your choice.
This school year from Sept-Jan alone TES has collected $280 from Safeway! FREE MONEY!!
We are able to register your Safeway card and those of your neighbors, family and friends. I just need your name, address and card number. You can also go to escrip.com, enter our school name and register your Safeway, Market of Choice, Macy's, Nordstrom, VISA, MC, AMEX, Discover and more!
Please note that Albertsons is NO LONGER participating in this same program. This is unfortunate because we as a PTA have depended on that funding for many programs that directly impact your student(s). Hopefully we can make up the gap by registering as many other cards as possible and shopping where they do participate.
If you don't know your card number, you can call 1-877-723-3929 to get it. They will only release that info to the card holder for privacy reasons.
Again, you can register yourself at escrip.com or send me your info to apriluffens@thurstonpta.com and I will take care of it. Feel free to collect as many Safeway card numbers as you can from your friends and family too!

Angela Wienhold Fundraiser
Angela Wienhold, the mother of Bianca Newell a fourth grader in Mr. Bonar's class, has Leukemia. She currently is in Seattle where she underwent a stem cell transplant. Bianca is here, staying with one of our wonderful TES families.
Angela is currently on a one-year leace of absence from her job as a teacher at Douglas Gardens. Angela and Bianca do not have any family to lean on in this time of need. It is our hope they can lean on all of us to help in any way we can.
A few weeks ago we had a district wide Papa's Pizza Night fundraiser that raised $684 for her medical fund. Because the cost of Angela's care when she returns in about four months so staggering, you may also donate to: "THE ANGELA WIENHOLD MEDICAL FUND" ACCOUNT #653 000 5286 Wells Fargo Bank. If you want to send a note to Angela or would like to help in other ways besides monetarily, you can contact Angie Roser at (541) 912-4437.
Thank you ahead of time for supporting one of our own.

Scrip Program Scrip gift cards
Scrip is an ongoing program for TES. The PTA buys gift cards at a discounted rate through glscrip.com and sells them at face value. To support this fundraiser please take into consideration gifts or everyday shopping that you will be doing throughout the month and buy gift cards through this program. Also, ask your friends and family if they need any gift cards to use for their shopping needs. Scrip order forms will be coming out every other month and usually takes 1 week to process once the order is placed. The next order form will come out in March. Thank you for supporting this program. Questions can be asked to Jobina @ 988-1110 or mjmcgillivray@yahoo.com.
We also have a few Scrip cards on hand for purchase. Contact Toni Webb at ToniWebb@ThurstonPTA.com and click here for a list.
Classroom Parent Helpers Needed Parent Helper
One of our first grade teachers could use your help. Mrs. Pinson is short on parent helpers in her classroom. If you can devote a couple hours a week, please contact her at jpinson@sps.lane.edu
All the parent volunteer positions at TES are open to parents, grandparents and neighbors. If you have the time and enjoy working with little ones, we can use you! Wether its in a classroom, library, office...its your choice. Getting involved with your childrens school not only shows them that you care, but also fosters open communication with the teaching staff.
